Today this large village is one of the major producers of the Red Orange of Sicily.
It was founded by Dionigi il vecchio of Syracuse in 400 BC, with the name of Adranon, as the homonymous sicilian god.
It has numerous churches of architectural interest.
The Major Church has sixteen basaltic columns from the temple of the god Adrano.
The Norman castle, built by Count Roger in the eleventh century and remodeled in the '300, hosts the archaeological museum.
Also to be visited is the Bellini Theater, whose interior has also been the set of some movies, and the Victory Garden.
In the village there are still the remains of the ancient walls, instead outside the town there are the remains of the ancient Mendolito, the only Greek city on Mount Etna, and, on the river Simeto, the evocative Saracen Bridge.
