The only non-rock building in Pantalica, the Anaktoron is a very ancient and unique megalithic construction of its kind in Sicily.

It has dimensions of 37.5 by 11.5 meters.

It consists of large blocks of stone.

Only foundations are preserved.

It has several rectangular rooms.

Evident imitation of the Mycenaean palaces, most likely the local prince had it built, during the first period of Pantalica, that is between 1250 and 1050 BC, using some expert workers from the Aegean area, since the construction technology of the Anactoron is far higher than the indigenous knowledge of that time which used only environments carved into the rock or wooden huts.

The building was modified and reused later during the Byzantine era, and was abandoned due to a fire, perhaps due to the arrival of the Arabs.

Inside the Anaktoron bronze weapons and the remains of a bronze foundry were found.

The doors of the building opened outwards, which would suggest a storage function.

Recently, in the vicinity of the Anaktoron, remains of three walls have been found.
