Perched on a rocky outcrop at the bottom of Mount San Calogero, Caccamo is a pretty medieval town, rich in art and history.
It was called "The Carthage of Sicily".
It is dominated by an imposing and marvelous turreted castle and embellished by 32 churches and convents.
Its history is linked to that of its majestic castle.
The origins of the country are uncertain; it is assumed that the first urban plan was built by the Carthaginians and the presence of a Saracen core is presumed.
