Not far from the famous Chestnut "dei Cento Cavalli", close to the road, in a private land, there is a majestic natural monument: Chestnut "della Nave".
It has a circumference of 23 meters and a height of 19.
It has an estimated age of about 1800 years and, unlike the chestnut dei Cento Cavalli, it is a single trunk.
It is certainly one of the most beautiful and ancient trees in Italy and is included in the list of trees of "exceptional historical and monumental value".
It owes its name to the shape of the base, which recalls the hull of a sailing ship.
It is also called "Castagno di Sant'Agata", and locally it also has the name of "Arrusbigghiasonnu" (which awakens from sleep), probably due to its low fronds that bothered those who were dozing on the passing carts.
The real beginning of its roots is covered by centuries of lava ash, and the various excrescences of its stem reveal its age.
