This castle was built by the Arabs in a cliff on the beach at the mouth of the Roccella stream, on the ruins of a previous tower.
It was rebuilt before 1385.
It is a nice closure to the Campofelice di Roccella beach.
His first news dates back to around 1050, and is provided by the arabian traveler Idrisi.
Once the tower was flanked by a complex of multi-storey buildings that followed the course of the cliff.
The tower has a rectangular plan, has three floors and is about 20 meters high, with walls about 2 and a half meters thick, and is in good conditions, instead of the other buildings, which have preserved only the bases and part of an aqueduct.
Inside the tower still resist beautiful wooden shelves that supported a loft.
In the beach in 1338 the Angevins landed.
Later the castle passed to the Ventimiglia and the Alliata.
Around 1750 the castle was still manned and equipped with artillery.
In 2008 it was bought by the Municipality of Campofelice di Roccella, but is currently in a state of neglect.
Today we discover...
