A very pleasant walk in the heart of the Acireale's timpa, with wide views from above on a marvelous blue sea, the Chiazzette are a place absolutely to visit.
This stepped walkway was built in the Spanish era to reach the small port of Santa Maria la Scala from the Suffragio district.
The gait is serpentine, with wide ramps carved into the lava and paved; the seven Chiazzette are small "squares", with lots of lava stone benches sheltered from the sun thanks to the surrounding trees.
Access is made from a modern bridge that from the center of Acireale leads directly to the nature trail without having to dangerously cross the state road 114.
The Chiazzette in their past have a glorious and important role as a "lookout": in fact there is the fortress "del Tocco" on the way: an ancient bulwark against pirate raids.
Continuing the pleasant descent, you can also recognize the structure of an ancient votive chapel dedicated to the Holy Cross.
At the last hairpin bend the path branches off: on the right there is a tortuous lane made up of lava stone staircases that wind in the middle of a citrus grove, reaching the beach of Mill of Santa Maria la Scala.
Walking along this nature trail you can enjoy the beauty of the entire coast from Taormina to Capomulini, and often also part of Calabria.
It is for this reason that the Chiazzette are considered one of the most panoramic positions in the whole of the territory of Acireale.
We recommend to observe the sunrise from here.
It is for the magic they express that the "Chiazzette" have always represented a symbolic place of Acireale.
Usually the journey time is about two hours, round trip and the difficulty level of the itinerary can be considered medium-low.
