This Baroque church was built between 1695 and 1703 in the same place where the original church structure stood, destroyed with the annexed Cistercian monastery by the 1693 terrible earthquake.
The façade, 25 meters high, has both baroque and rococo elements; among the various decorations we find a beautiful baroque portal, the symbols of the martyrdom of St.Lucia, the Spanish coats of arms and a rich railing separating the façade in two parts.
Inside, the church houses the beautiful painting by Caravaggio "Burial of Saint Lucia"; this large canvas of 300x408 cm, was painted in 1608.
