In the Valley of the Miracles, an enchanted place characterized by a religious silence stands the hermitage of San Corrado.
It's also reachable by a staircase that descends from the above village of San Corrado Fuori le Mura.
Built close to the rock face, the 18th-century sanctuary incorporates the cave where St Corrado retreated in hermitage from 1322 to 1351.
Just before the Sanctuary, a staircase carved into the rock face leads to the cave where the Saint rested; going up again to the left, there is another cave called St Guglielmo.
Inside the Sanctuary, in the left altar, in front of the cave of San Corrado, surmounted by a beautiful wooden crucifix of the eighteenth century, by Gaetano Franzese, inside an artistic glass urn, there are the remains of the body of St Leonzio.
In the Hermitage you can also visit a small Museum wich exposes clothes, anatomical vows, gold and silver, paintings, sacred furnishings and relics by San Corrado and the Hermit Pietro Gazzetti.
The Sanctuary is open from 7:00 am to sunset.
