"Santa Maria del Passo in the territory of Paternò near Valcorrente" was purchased in 1456 by Don Guglielmo Raimondo Moncada, count of Adernò.
The territory included the lands of Camporotondo, Guardia (now Borrello) and Nicolosi.
Due to the lava eruption of 1669 the population dispersed to settle in Catania, S.
Maria di Licodia, and Paternò; some survivors founded the neighborhood of Stella Aragona (the current Borrello) in the area of "la Guardia" with one hundred and thirty houses and a church.
The prince of Paternò, Don Luigi Guglielmo Moncada, obtained from the viceroy of Sicily, the recognition of his rights over the inhabitants of Malpasso and the authorization for the construction of a new "land" further downstream, in the "Carmena" area, near the fief of Valcorrente.
The new town was thus built, with the toponym of Fenicia Moncada, from the name of the mythical bird of prey that rises from its own ashes and in deference to the feudatory of the place.
The construction project was drafted by the architect Carlo Manosanta, who arranged a system of regular and symmetrical checkerboard lots, with wide streets that intersected repeatedly.
Here other who had escaped the catastrophe settled and delimited the regular chessboard layout of the new Fenicia Moncada.
In 1693 the unhealthy site of Fenicia Moncada was badly damaged by the earthquake: two thirds of the buildings were razed to the ground while the remaining part was damaged but considered reparable.
The new Belpasso was rebuilt on the initiative of the Prince of Campofranco, administrator of the Duke of Montalto, who undertook to make the building in a short time.
Today, unfortunately, due to the abandonment, and the bad government that has even allowed the construction of a shopping center in the archaeological area, nothing recognizable remains about Fenicia Moncada.
