Fiumara d'Arte is a series of twelve modern works created by contemporary artists and scattered in the municipalities of Castel di Lucio, Mistretta, Tusa, Motta d'Affermo, Pettineo and Reitano, following the Tusa river, today in reality little more that a torrent.
The collector Antonio Presti had the idea of the Fiumara.
In 1982, following the loss of his father, he decided to dedicate him a monument, so turned to the sculptor Pietro Consagra.
Antonio Presti thought to dedicate the work to the community, and decided to place it at the mouth of the river.
The project soon expanded, with the idea of creating an open-air museum.
The first work, entitled "La materia poteva non esserci", by Pietro Consagra, was made in 1982; it is 18 meters high and is made of reinforced concrete.
In 1988 followed "Una curva gettata alle spalle del tempo" by Paolo Schiavocampo; in 1989 "Monumento per un poeta morto", renamed by the population "La finestra sul mare", by Tano Festa, located in Villa Margi, and "Stanza di barca d'oro" by Hidetoshi Nagasawa, located in Mistretta.
In 1990 "Arethusa", by Piero Dorazio and Graziano Marini, were built in the barracks of the Carabinieri of Castel di Lucio; "Energia mediterranea", by Antonio Di Palma, in Motta d'Affermo; "Il Labirinto di Arianna" by Italo Lanfredini in Castel di Lucio.
Because of judicial difficulties encountered in the construction of these works, in 1991 Antonio Presti decided to build a hotel called "Atelier sul mare" in Castel di Tusa, where each room is decorated by contemporary artists.
Also in 1991 a demonstration was organized in Pettineo during which dozens of artists created paintings that were given away to the inhabitants, thus constituting a town museum.
The demonstration was repeated for six years.
The "Muro della Vita" was created in 1993, a collective work by several ceramists in the territory of Mistretta.
In 2010 the "Piramide del 38° parallelo" of Mauro Staccioli was built, in steel and aligned with the line of the 38th parallel, facing the excavations of the ancient Halaesa.
In 2015 for a few months a sculptural work by Giacomo Rizzo entitled "Respiro" was placed on the Lampare Beach in Tusa.
