The Bellomo palace is a very valuable building of the Swabian period; it's very well preserved and is used to host the Regional Gallery.
In the fifteenth century it was purchased by the powerful Siracusan family Bellomo, who made several changes, including the rearrangement of the portal, the staircase and windows, which gave the building a Catalan appearance.
The Regional Gallery was established there in 1940 and houses works ranging from medieval to modern times.
Among the names, for the sculptures are prominent those of Gagini, Francesco Laurana, Giovan Battista Mazzolo, while the gallery houses works by Filippo Paladini, Mario Minniti, Guglielmo Borremans and the masterpiece of Antonello da Messina "Annunciation", dated 1474.
Noteworthy, besides the statues of the Gagini, also some polyptychs of the fifteenth century, works of Byzantine ancestry and of the Catalan school, of which there are very few other examples in Sicily; For info tel: 0931 69511; Open Tuesday to Saturday from 09:00 to 19:00; Sunday from 09:00 to 13:00.
