Inside the "Grotta di Carburangeli" nature reserve, this suggestive cave has a considerable speleological, paleontological, biological and archaeological interest.
It mainly develops horizontally, consists of several rooms and is about 400 meters long.
Here were found important remains of animal species no longer existing in Sicily, such as the elephant, the bear, the hyena, the deer and many others, and stone objects dating back to the Paleolithic and Neolithic.
The ancient traces of the passage of man are still visible in drawings on the walls.
At the entrance to the cave you can still see a charcoal drawing that seems to represent a sorcerer during a ceremony.
It is thought that the cave was born in the Quaternary era thanks to the flow of groundwater.
On the ceiling and on the walls of the first room, erosion has forged suggestive undulations called "current fingerprints".
The stalactites and stalagmites, illuminated by the lights of the visitors, create enchanting light and shadow.
The reserve is open every day; the visit is suitable for both adults and children.
Reservation is mandatory.
