To dive in the azure sea of Isola Bella is an enchanted experience because of the beauty that surrounds you.
Donated in 1806 by Ferdinand I of Bourbon to the mayor of Taormina, it was purchased in 1890 by Lady Florence Trevelyan, wife of the mayor of Taormina Salvatore Cacciola, who built a picturesque house and planted rare precious essences.
In 1954 it was bought by the brothers Leone and Emilio Bosurgi, who built a beautiful residence.
In 1984 the Sicily Region declared the Isola Bella "a monument of historical, artistic, naturalistic and cultural interest" subjecting it to protection restrictions.
In 1990 the island was bought by the Department of Cultural Heritage; later, in 1998 a natural reserve was established.
Isola Bella is a charming island of modest size, which has become an obligatory tourist destination for who spend holidays in Taormina.
