The Casazza of Nicosia is a traveling show with characters in period costume.
In the Easter period the city's associations and theatrical companies come together to stage a theater in the evocative scenes of the streets of Nicosia.
Scenes from the Old and New Testament are represented.
The result is a real dive into the past.
This type of representation originated in Genoa around the year 1260, and spread to Sicily in the '500 thanks to the commercial relations between Genoa and Palermo.
Among the various Casazze in representation at that time, the Nicosia one was probably the most grandiose, so much that at the end of the '800 it was composed of 35 scenes; it had a duration of 12 hours and involved over 3000 people.
This event brought Nicosia more than 15,000 visitors.
In 2016, after a gap of 165 years, the dramatization was revived.
In 2018 the representation has been revived on the days of 20, 21 and 22 April.
A unique experience that immerses the public in history.
