In August 1943, during the Second World War, a historic battle took place in Troina: US troops against a group of Germans; from 1 to 6 August.
Among the population there were more than 100 victims.
The days of the battle were immortalized by the well-known photojournalist Robert Capa, who made some of the most famous photographs of his career.
In particular on August 6, 1943, in this point he realized the famous photo that portrays a shepherd, such Francesco Coltiletti, called Massaru Ciccu, that curved, with a stick, indicates the road to Sperlinga to a crouched US soldier.
At this point a plaque recalls that moment.
