The origin of Mineo is lost in the mists of time.
In the pre-Hellenic period, archaeological finds such as remains of megalithic walls and tombs would demonstrate the existence of a Sicilian center, then Hellenized: probably the ancient Menai.
The present town was instead founded by Ducezio in 459 BC.
It became an important stronghold with the conquest of the Arabs in 829.
Today the town has some medieval-like testimonies, such as the castle of Serravalle, the castle of Mongialino and the walls, but most of the buildings were built after the earthquake of 1693.
These are buildings built by the town nobility, buildings that in their simplicity still bear witness to a certain taste for beauty.
