Motta Sant'Anastasìa has ancient origins; develops on a magnificent basaltic cliff.
The Greek presence in the territory around the centuries V-IV BC is already attested, and since the period of Dionysius, tyrant of Syracuse, it played a considerable importance role as a stronghold for sighting and defense.
In the Norman period, the Gran Conte Ruggero d'Altavilla built a tower, still existing and open to visitors, to guard the entrance to the plain of Catania and thus protect the Norman possessions from saracen incursions.
The characteristics of the territory, the remains of the defense structures and the dwellings highlight the medieval typicality of the town.
