The Antonio Salinas Regional Archaeological Museum is housed in a 16th century building which is part of the great monumental complex of the Olivella, which also includes the church of Sant'Ignazio.
During its history it suffered from the heavy destruction of the Anglo-American bombing raids of 1943.
Today the museum has one of the richest collections of Punic and Greek art in Italy, reflecting the richness of the history of Sicily from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages.
This interesting museum has a Phoenician-Punic section.
A part is dedicated to Selinunte and its temples, with recompositions of parts of the temples and the great gorgonian mask of the temple C.
There are finds from Lilibeo, Himera, Mozia, Solunto, Megara Hyblaea, Tindari, Camarina , Agrigento and other Sicilian archaeological sites.
Among the works of great artistic importance there is the great bronze Aries from Syracuse, by the III century BC, the Heracles that breaks down the deer, a Roman copy from an original by Lisippo, and a Roman marble copy of the Satyr of Prassitele, the most beautiful among those left.
The museum does not fail to exhibit various underwater discoveries.
