Probably it is not a real naumachia, a space for naval games, but a long monumental wall dating back to the Roman period.
It is 122 meters long and 5 meters high, belonging to a gym or a monumental fountain with games of water.
There are eighteen large apse niches and as many rectangular, which were once adorned with statues.
It is the second work of Roman architecture in Taormina after the grandiose Theater.
At one time this wall was covered with marble, and bordered a large rectangular space much wider than the current one.
A special feature: as soon as the access stairs descend, the steps of a pre-existing Greek temple are still visible on the left.
