Two thousand years before Christ, the vast area facing Gela was densely inhabited by indigenous people militarly and politically unified; it was one of the most populated areas of protohistoric Sicily.
Population lived in circular huts.
Necropolis all around area is second for size and number of tombs only to Pantalica.
Thousands of tombs are an attraction of rare charm, and have provided a vast collection of objects.
