Palazzo Beneventano is considered the highest expression of Sicilian Baroque.
This architectural marvel was built in the early eighteenth century, immediately after the earthquake that shocked eastern Sicily in 1693, and it is the flagship of the magnificent Scicli.
It is a very elegant and sophisticated building, an enchanting and charming palace, full of flashy decorations that enhance the Baroque style to its fullest potential.
Particularly interesting are the corner with the coat of arms of the Beneventano family, and the balconies, with rounded railings and corbels in which fantastic animals and anthropomorphic masks are depicted.
The family crest is surrounded by expressive Moor's heads, reminiscent of the Saracen raids that once took place throughout Sicily, all represented in a triumph of Baroque.
The palace was the home of Francesco Giuseppe Federico Beneventano del Bosco, baron of the Piana, who was a well-known baritone in the second half of the nineteenth century.
This treasure was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO with the motivation "A masterpiece of the human creative genius of the late Baroque age".
