Once this ancient bridge crossed the river Oreto (deviated in 1938).
It was built in 1113 by Giorgio of Antioch, admiral of king Ruggero II.
It is built with tuff blocks and has seven arches of unequal height, plus some minor ones, with pointed arches and double arches.
On this bridge, on the night between 26 and 27 May 1860 a clash took place between the Garibaldi troops descended from Gibilrossa and the Bourbon army, with success of the first and subsequent access to Palermo.
Since 3 July 2015 it has become part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites within the "Norman Palermo and Cathedrals of Cefalù and Monreale" itineraries.
