Inside a lava cave, transformed into the church of Santa Maria della Neve two centuries ago, there is a work of extraordinary beauty: a nativity scene consisting of 35 life-size characters, dating back to the eighteenth century.
The characters were made in wood and wax by skilled local craftsmen, and they wear clothes of that period.
The penumbra surrounding the crib pushes the gaze to be captured by the scene, whose centerpiece is the birth of Jesus, and leads the visitor to be an additional element.
Alongside the typical nativity characters, some are taken from popular culture, such as "u scantatu da stidda".
There are also some indigenous characters who are the escort of the colored Magus.
The crib was completed in several times, between 1741 and 1752, and then in 1812, and the last century also underwent two restoration interventions.
The crib is open during the Christmas period from 9:00 to 12:30 and from 16:00 to 19:30.
