This nature reserve has a unique feature in Europe; has a deep incision carved by the river Simeto over the centuries on the oldest lava flows of the entire Etna area, creating gorges, waterfalls, rapids and ponds.
The landscape is unique, spectacular, and offers scenarios of rare beauty.
The height of the gorge is from 5 to 15 meters.
The geometry of the basaltic prisms and the contact between the sedimentary rocks and the ethnic lavas gives particular interest both landscape and geomorphological.
The reserve begins near Bronte and continues for a long stretch of the river.
Since 2000 this territory is part of the list of Sites of Community Interest.
