Remained the only in the Aci land, the pupi of the Opera dei Pupi "Turi Grasso" continue with diligence and passion the work begun by their father and grandfather when he was just 16 years old.
This art arrived in Sicily at the beginning of the nineteenth century, imported and transformed by Giovanni Grasso from Catania, and has become a symbol of Sicilianity all over the world, so much that it has been recognized by UNESCO, first of all, as an Intangible Heritage of humanity.
Equipped with valuable clothes and armor, all rigorously handmade, and masterfully directed by long irons, the puppets continue to represent stories taken from medieval chivalry literature, concerning the paladins of Charlemagne.
These built by the Turi Grasso theater are generally 20 kg weight and 120 cm height, sword in hand and stiff leg, like the tradition of the Catania school which builds 140 cm height and 20 to 30 kg weight.
In this theater since 1963 characters such as Orlando, Rinaldo, Gano di Magonza, Charlemagne and Angelica have been clapped by many people.
In addition to the shows in the theater, adorned with beautiful scenery, for those visiting the museum, the puppeteers will show the technique of the overhang with which they work the plates of the armor, and to perform in demonstrations of the maneuvers of the pupi.
