It cannot be said that you actually visited Mount Etna until you observe the immensity of the Valle del Bove.
This is a large basin located on the eastern side of the Etna, inside the protected area of the Etna Park.
It is deserted, entirely covered by lava.
The valley has a perimeter of about 18 kilometers and presents walls north and south whose height varies between 400 and 1,000 meters.
Its width is about 7 km.
To the east, instead, it opens up into an esplanade interrupted by Monte Calanna which emerges isolated from the recent lavas.
A steep slope, the Salto della Giumenta, separates it from the underlying Val Calanna.
The valley had origin by a series of collapses of the original eruptive vent.
Surely the Valle del Bove is a recommended destination for those who visit Mount Etna, a natural spectacle of remarkable beauty among the most beautiful views that leave the spectator almost astonished in front of this majesty.
It can be reached via several paths mainly for trekking or alternatively by car from some panoramic points lower down.
The routes are almost all of medium difficulty.
