Zafferana rises to 574 meters on the level of the sea; its territory extends to the summit of Mount Etna, including landscapes of inestimable natural beauty: dense woods, lava desert, and also includes the Valle del Bove, Val Calanna and Valle San Giacomo.
Zafferana Etnea is one of the access gates to the volcano because here starts one of the roads leading to the Sapienza refuge, starting point for excursions on the summit of Mount Etna.
In Roman times, this territory was crossed by an important road, alternative to the coastal one, which connected Catania with Taormina; a small part of this ancient paved road is still visible at the Dagalone district.
If you visit Zafferana you must stop to taste the excellent honey that has been produced here for about a century in such quantities as 15% of the national production.
